BYU WR Talon Shumway Named Semifinalist For Campbell Trophy

PROVO, Utah – BYU wide receiver Talon Shumway has been named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy.
The William V. Campbell Trophy is presented by the National Football Foundation. The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
Shumway was one of 185 semifinalists announced by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday.
An exercise science major, Shumway has seven receptions for 70 yards and one touchdown so far this season. After this season at BYU, Shumway plans to enroll in medical school and not pursue a career in the National Football League.

Shumway’s best catch so far in his senior season was against nationally-ranked USC where he had a Trojan defender draped all over him and his leg was caught underneath but he still came up with the grab.
To qualify as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, school’s must nominate the student-athlete and the student-athlete has to be in their final year of playing eligibility. The GPA requirement is a minimum of a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and also have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Back in 2016, former BYU QB and current member of the New Orleans Saints Taysom Hill was a finalist for the award.
The National Football Foundation will announce the finalists for the award on October 30th and then the winner will be announced on December 10th.
