“Jaylon Johnson and Julian Blackmon, you watch them play, it’s as special as I have seen since the Legion of Boom with Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman,” Roth said. “That’s the connectivity that they have on this defense. They have been in it for a long time, they know everybody’s role and they trust themselves and they have an aggressive scheme. It’s press coverage, you and me, let’s roll. This defense is stoked for the opportunity. USC has to match their intensity.”
Blackmon has two interceptions in the first two games this year, including a pick-six against BYU in the season opener. He didn’t play in Utah’s 31-0 win over Idaho State last week due to an undisclosed injury.
Johnson is listed as one of the best cornerbacks in college football. He hasn’t had much action in the passing game with quarterbacks avoiding to throw the football in his direction.
Thomas and Sherman played together with the Seahawks from 2011-17 and won a Super Bowl during that time. Sherman is currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers, while Thomas is with the Baltimore Ravens.
Utah will face the USC Trojans on Friday at 7 p.m. on FS1.
