Mitchell, Gobert To Face Off In FIBA World Cup Quarterfinals

SHANGHAI, China – The United States beat Brazil 89-73 and France lost to Australia 100-98 in the second round of the FIBA World Cup of basketball. That means that Utah Jazz duo Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert will face each other in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
In the win over Brazil, Mitchell finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, while shooting 2-of-6 from the field in 22 minutes of play. The United States has punched their ticket to the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Against Australia, Gobert had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks. He shot 3-of-4 from the field in 31 minutes on the court. Gobert and France lost to Jazz teammate Joe Ingles and the Boomers with the Jazz forward dropping 23 points and 3 three-pointers.

France and the United States played each other in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the U.S. prevailed with a 100-97 win. Klay Thompson had 30 points to lead Team USA and Heurtel de Colo scoring 18 points for France.
The U.S. has not lost a game in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, while France just lost their first game, when they fell to Australia on Monday.
