Wilson’s Overtime TD Pass To Shumway Gave Cougars First Lead Of Game

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – BYU made it to overtime against the Tennessee Volunteers, but the Cougars didn’t take their first lead of the game until Zach Wilson hit Talon Shumway for a 14-yard touchdown in the first overtime of Saturday’s game.
The Cougars trailed the Volunteers the entire game until Jake Oldroyd made a 33-yard field goal with one second left in regulation.
BYU had the first possession of the first overtime and Wilson found Shumway for a touchdown that gave the Cougars a 23-16 lead, their first of the game.

The Volunteers answered back with a touchdown of their own and forced double overtime.
BYU’s defense was able to hold the Vols to a field goal on their next possession.
The Cougars got the ball back and three plays later ran Ty’Son Williams for the game-winning touchdown.

BYU moved to a record of 1-1 with the win.
Up next for the Cougars is USC. BYU will host the Trojans on Saturday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m.
