SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In arguably the cutest moment of Real Salt Lake’s season interim head coach Freddy Jaurez is the one who adopted the cat that ran on the field during the team’s match against Tigres UANL in the Leagues Cup.
The Rio Tinto Stadium grounds crew account tweeted out a photo of Juarez and the cat letting fans know he is the one who took the cute little feline in.
Just a quick public service announcement before his first game in charge. #RSL Coach Juarez was the one who reached out to us to adopt the kitty last week. 😺👍🏼#vamosfreddy #vamosRSL @realsaltlake pic.twitter.com/7wTwwutfm0

The Cat Incident
During the game, French international, André-Pierre Gignac was running onto a ball towards the west sideline during stoppage time, when a cat randomly appeared.
The crowd erupted, seemingly elated that a cat had disrupted play despite the fact that RSL were in desperate need of an equalizing goal.

It was a game that did not go the home crowds’ way as Tigres eventually beat RSL 1-0 after Eduardo Vargas deflected a strike from thirty yards from the back of the net in the 57th minute.
Coach Juarez is taking the reigns for the first time tonight since Mike Petke was fired. The club takes on the Seattle Sounders at Rio Tinto Stadium.
