Corey Baird Leads RSL To Big Road Win Over Sporting Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The rivalry was renewed at Children’s Mercy Park and Corey Baird scored two goals to lead Real Salt Lake past Sporting Kansas City to a 2-1 victory.
Baird picked up a brace after scoring a goal in each half to help RSL get the road win.
The first goal came in the 38th minute when Albert Rusnak attempted a free kick about 20 yards from the goal. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced to Baird, who put the ball away past the Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper.

His “brace” goal came in the 70th minute when forward Jefferson Savarino lobbed the ball ahead to Baird, who chested down the ball on the left side of the goal and blasted it with his left foot, going far post past the keeper.

Baird collected his second and third goal of the season.
Sporting Kansas City started the match off with a goal in the 31st minute from Johnny Russell.
In the 84th minute, Sporting Kansas City’s Daniel Salloi was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Damir Kreilach.

After seven minutes of added time, Real Salt Lake was able to come away with the win.
Both Nedum Onuoha and Sam Johnson returned to the lineup from injuries.
It’s the third road win of the season for RSL and have won two straight matches.
They are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, three points behind the Los Angeles Galaxy for fifth place and only one point ahead of FC Dallas.
RSL will return home on Wednesday, August 14 to face the Seattle Sounders at 8 p.m.
