PROVO, Utah – For the past five years, BYU’s marketing efforts for Cougar football game days have focused on having their national fan base wearing the same color for a specific game.

BYU has come a long way from the days of when then Cougar Stadium used to be filled with fans wearing an assortment of colors in the stands. You would have thought it looked like a bowl of skittles in the stands.  That’s not the case anymore.

The three colors that BYU fans will cycle through this season consist of the school’s official colors. Navy blue, white, and royal blue.

Royal Blue has seen a significant spike in branding from the BYU football program on social media in recent seasons.  This year, royal blue is the color that fans are being asked to wear the most.  For seven of the 12 weeks in the 2019 season, fans are being asked to wear royal.

The BYU Store put out the official schedule for what color BYU fans should wear in 2019.

Last year, fans were only asked to wear royal blue three different times. Despite the popularity of royal blue, navy blue is still the primary color in terms of merchandise sales according to BYU’s licensing director Adam Parker and it really isn’t close.

Royal Blue makes up less than 20 percent of BYU’s merchandising sales in the previous years.  Maybe that number will see an increase in 2019 as more options become available.

Colors BYU Fans Should Wear For 2019 Season

  • August 29th vs. Utah – Royal Blue
  • September 7th at Tennessee – Royal Blue
  • September 14th vs. USC – Navy Blue
  • September 21st vs. Washington – White (White-Out game)
  • September 28th at Toledo – Royal Blue
  • October 12th at USF – White
  • October 19th vs. Boise State – Royal Blue
  • November 2nd at Utah State – Royal Blue
  • November 9th vs. Liberty – Navy Blue
  • November 16th vs. Idaho State – Royal Blue
  • November 23rd at UMass – Navy Blue
  • November 30th at San Diego State – Royal Blue
