PROVO, Utah – The day is here. BYU football fall camp begins and we in the media have just received the first 110-man fall camp roster for the 2019 season.
Let’s dive into what’s catching my eye on this initial roster from day one of fall camp.
– BYU added a transfer linebacker from the Naval Academy in Pepe Tanuvasa. Tanuvasa is 6-1, 226 pounds from Tigard, Oregon.
– Joe Tukuafu is back on the roster. The former East High standout hasn’t played a down of football since the 2013 football season. It’s been six long years and Tukuafu battled to get re-enrolled at Brigham Young University to be once again part of the football program. Tukuafu was last with the team during the 2017 season where he redshirted at tight end. During the 2017 season, he also saw time on the scout team along the offensive line.
– Junior college defensive back Eric Ellison is not on the roster as reported earlier this week. Ellison needs five more credits to complete his degree at Mt. San Jacinto College. He will redshirt this season and enroll at BYU this January.

– Linebacker A.J. Lolohea is not listed on the roster. Lolohea was competing at outside linebacker this past spring. The former West High graduate was a member of the scout team the past two seasons at defensive end and linebacker.
– Incoming true freshman Javelle Brown has been switched to cornerback.
– 2017 signee Seth Willis just returned home from serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this past Monday. He’s not listed on the 110-man roster in fall camp.
– Other missionaries not listed on the 110-man roster include punter Ryan Rehkow and athlete Mason Fakahua. Fakahua will be enrolled this January in preparation for the 2020 football season.
– There were hopes back in spring practices this past March that Kearns High running back Amone Finau was going to join the program this fall. That doesn’t appear to be the case at the moment as Finau is not listed on the 110-man roster to open up camp. Finau is the older brother to current BYU running back Sione Finau who is listed on the roster.
– Jersey numbers for newcomers on the roster: Luc Andrada (24), Ben Bywater (35), Javelle Brown (10), Seleti Fevaleaki (44), Blake Freeland (71), Kimball Henstrom (37), Keanu Hill (12), Britton Hogan (54), George Udo (7), Masen Wake (28), Carter Wheat (99), Dimitri Gallow (15), Alema Pilimai (88), Alec Wyble-Mesa (30), Shamon Willis (33), Emmanuel Esukpa (33), Ty’Son Williams (5).
