Bushman, Love, Moss Named To Walter Camp Preseason Watch List

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Heisman Trophy is awarded to college football’s best player every year, but the player of the year award in the sport is the Walter Camp Award.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year award is voted on by the 130 NCAA FBS head coaches and sports information directors. Only forty players were named to the watch list that was released on Friday and three local athletes checked in on the pre-season list.

BYU tight end Matt Bushman, Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, and Utah running back Zack Moss were all named to the Walter Camp preseason list.
All three of these student-athletes have been named to multiple award watch lists as fall camp practices loom beginning next week.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 130 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec.12. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 53rd annual national awards banquet on Jan. 18, 2020 in New Haven, Connecticut.

35 different schools were represented on the 40-player watch list and 11 conferences (including FBS Independents) had players recognized by the Player of the Year award. Alabama led the way with four players appearing on the watch list.
