Christen Press Returns From World Cup To Score For Royals In First Half

(Jeffrey D. Allred, Deseret News)

SANDY, Utah – Utah Royals FC and United States Women’s National Team forward Christen Press leveled the match at one against the Portland Thorn in the first half.

The goal came in the 43rd minute when she dribbled the ball through the Thorn defender’s legs and fired the ball far post and it went past the keeper to level the match.

It’s the second goal this season for Press, who made her first appearance with the Royals after winning her second straight World Cup with the United States.

In France with the national team, Press scored one goal and was a critical part of the success for the USWNT.

The Royals also started Kelley O’Hara and Becky Sauerbrunn, who were both with Press on the United States squad at the World Cup.

Utah is in need of a win after losing their last two and have not picked up a victory in three straight matches.

Portland is tied for first place in the NWSL standings with 22 points, while Utah is at 17 points, which is good for fifth place in the standings.

The Royals match against the Thorn can be streamed on or the KSL TV app.
