Tony Finau Finishes Tied For Third In First Round Of The Open Championship

PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland – Utah native Tony Finau had a great first round of The Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

He shot three under par for a score of 68.

Finau is tied for third place with many golfers including Alex Noren, Webb Simpson, Sergio Garcia, Dylan Frittelli, Robert MacIntyre, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Ryan Fox, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Brooks Koepka, Lee Westwood, Jon Rahm and Ashton Turner

He started the round with three straight pars before picking up a birdie on the fourth hole.

Finau parred the next five holes to finish the front nine at one under.

The Rose Park native birdied two of the first three holes to begin the back nine before getting a par on the last six holes to finish at three under.

Finau is searching for his first PGA Tour win and a win in a major tournament.

J.B. Holmes is the leader currently at five under with Shane Lowry in second place at four under.

The second round will begin Friday morning on the Golf Channel.
