PROVO, Utah – Former Utah offensive lineman Mo Unutoa (pictured, left) has transferred to BYU and has been enrolled in classes at that Provo campus since June.  The news was first reported by, part of the 247Sports Network, and has been confirmed here at KSL Sports.

The former three-star recruit in the class of 2017 out of Kapaa, Hawaii entered the transfer portal during Utah Football’s spring practices this past March.  At BYU’s open spring scrimmage back on March 23rd, Unutoa visited BYU’s campus and made a commitment to the Cougars offensive coaching staff after the visit.

Unutoa is the son of Morris Unutoa Sr. who played seven seasons in the National Football League (1996-2002) with the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Buffalo Bills.

Heading into spring practices at Utah, Unutoa was listed as the starter at right tackle in the Utes spring prospectus despite appearing in only one game during the 2018 season.  Unutoa picked Utah over BYU back on Signing Day for the 2017 recruiting class.

This past December, Unutoa’s younger brother, Elijah Unutoa, signed with BYU and will be serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling for the 2021 season.  When Mo is a senior at BYU, Eli will be a true freshman for the Cougars.

Due to being an undergraduate transfer, Unutoa will have to sit out the 2019 season and then he will have two years to complete his final two years of eligibility with the Cougars.
