SAN JOSE, Calif. – It was a tightly contested match throughout until Real Salt Lake allowed a goal in the final moments to lose 1-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes.
The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for RSL.
San Jose scored the only goal in the 93rd minute as Danny Hoesen tapped in a cross into the box and RSL didn’t have a defender cover him, it’s Hoesen’s first goal of the season.
RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando accomplished something that no other player in Major League Soccer history has ever done, that is to appear in 500 games. The 20-year MLS veteran compiled 2 saves in the loss against the Earthquakes.
It was a very even match throughout the first 75 minutes with both clubs getting 9 shots, RSL had 3 on target compared to San Jose’s 2. After 90 minutes, RSL had 13 shots compared to the Earthquakes’ 12 and a 4-3 shots on target advantage for Real.
