“Before I was a football coach, I was a BYU fan,” Sitake said. “I am honestly still glad that I am a BYU fan. I have loved every second about this job.”
Sitake is still without a contract extension entering the final year of his deal. It has been noted how beloved the former BYU fullback is by his players and the coaches on his staff.
“I feel bad that I love it so much,” he stated. “The 10 years that I spent at Utah, I loved every minute of it as a coach. But there is something about being at the place that you grew up cheering for. Then you get to play and now you are the head coach.”
Sitake took over with less than ideal circumstances after the departure of Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia. But, Sitake has taken the right steps to get BYU back to being a great team.
“I am living the dream,” Sitake said. “The thing that I have learned the most is that I really love this school.”
"They took the heartache of that loss [Utah] and turned it into motivation to win the bowl game." Kalani Sitake says he's happy with the energy his team has had this offseason and the motivation they've had to prepare for the opener against Utah. #BYUMediaDay pic.twitter.com/Msszas8bSc
