SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake announced that head coach Mike Petke will not be on the sidelines for Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match against LAFC at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Assistant coach and former Real Monarchs head coach Freddy Juarez will be in charge of the club for the fourth round match.
Petke is attending a U.S. Soccer Pro License course, which is mandatory for him to attend to obtain the license.
Previously, Juarez served in that role for two seasons before being elevated to his current role as RSL Assistant Coach prior to the 2017 season. He has moved to the first chair three times during his tenure, earning draws in all three matches.
The RSL head coach will return to the club next week and will coach the team if they advance to the next round of the U.S. Open Cup tournament.
“Due to unfortunate timing I will not be able to attend tonight’s U.S. Open Cup game. I will be in Minneapolis attending the U.S. Soccer Pro Coaching Course which is required licensing for me,” Petke said. “The players, organization and I have full confidence in Freddy Juarez to lead the team tonight. Stronger together.”
