STADE OCEANE, Le Havre – New Zealand made their fifth FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance, but lost 1-0 after the Netherlands scored in the 92nd minute.

Utah Royals FC midfielder Katie Bowen played the full 90 minutes for New Zealand and played a big role in the midfield.

The 25-year old is making her third World Cup appearance and has scored 3 goals for the national team in her career.

Entering the match, the Netherlands were heavily favored with New Zealand searching for their first ever World Cup win as they have three draws and 9 losses in 5 World Cup appearances.

Despite having 30 percent possession in the first half, New Zealand created many chances in the first 45 minutes.

The start of the second half was much of the same with some quality chances but couldn’t find the back of the net for the under dogs.

The Netherlands continued to dominate possession but New Zealand’s defense was spectacular.

New Zealand will continue Group E play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Canada on FS2.
