FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Dwayne Wade just completed his 17th and final season in the NBA this past season. Since April, Wade has been enjoying the retired life.
Usually with retired life you would associate that lifestyle with golfing and traveling. You probably wouldn’t think attending baptisms for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But the future NBA Hall of Farmer was doing just that recently in Florida.
Wade gave the closing prayer at a Latter-day Saint baptism for his friend, Calyann Barnett, who became one of the newest member of the Latter-day church.
Barnett is a hair stylist for many current and former NBA players include Wade. Barnett learned of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through her friend, Clarke Miyasaki. Miyaski is a graduate of BYU and is the Executive Vice President of popular sock and clothing company, Stance.
Miyasaki posted pictures of Barnett’s baptism on his personal Instagram account. In one of the photos, Wade is listed as the individual who would provide the closing prayer at the baptism.
Wade who was known in his NBA career as “Flash” is also seen in a picture with Barnett in Miyaski holding what might be a paperback version of the Latter-day Saint Book of Mormon. Or is it a tablet? I don’t know. But, what we do know is that Barnett gave a copy of the Book of Mormon to all of her friends and family that attended her baptism.
Sister Krogh, Sister Adams, Sister Ward and Sister Dolder with their new convert. She gave a marked Book of Mormon with a beautiful gold hearted bookmark to each of her friends in attendance.
