SANDY, Utah – The Utah Royals delivered a dagger to the Orlando Pride with goal in the 89th minute by Makenzy Doniak to give her team a 2-0 lead.
The goal came nearly 50 minutes after Utah’s Amy Rodriguez scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick.
Doniak’s goal came just a minute or so after Orlando nearly tied the game up with a series of close shots from inside the box. Fortunately, Utah was able to block all of Orlando’s attempts and then cleared the ball to the other side, where Doniak scored to ice the game.

It was Doniak’s first goal of the season after she was forced to miss the entirety of last season with a torn ACL.
Doniak’s goal, coupled with Rodriguez’s from earlier in the game got the Royals back to winning ways after losing to Houston on May 11 and tying North Carolina on May 19. The Royals began the year with three straight wins.
The win vaulted Utah to the top of the NWSL standings with 13 points.
