Finau Tied For Second Going Into Final Round In Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas – Utah’s Tony Finau stumbled a bit in the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge but remains near the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round.
After shooting one over par on Saturday, Finau is tied for second with four others, including Jordan Spieth and Jim Furyk with an overall score of 7-under. Kevin Na leads the pack at 9-under after shooting one below par on Saturday.
After a disappointing finish at the PGA Championship last week, Finau made some major adjustments prior to this week’s tournament at Colonial Country Club. Among those changes was a switch to the “claw” putting grip, used by top pros like Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia.
The switch to the unconventional putting grip paid off early for Finau as he scored a 6-under 64 in the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge to take an early lead at the top of the leaderboard.
A native of Salt Lake City and a graduate of West High School, Finau has one pro win under his belt. The victory came at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. He has also finished in the top 10 at each of the four majors.
Finau will tee off with Furyk in the third-to-last pairing of the final round on Sunday at 11:45 p.m.
