Cottonwood Takes 5A Baseball Title With Win Over Timpanogos

OREM, Utah – Cottonwood High School was able to sneak by Timpanogos to claim the 5A baseball State Championship with a 6-5 win.
Timpanogos scored first in the third inning before the Colts tied the game before the side was retired.
The game would then go back-and-forth with Cottonwood dropping three runs in the fourth inning as Dylan Reiser hit a two-run homer to spark the inning. Hunter Cornia assisted on a sacrifice run to end the fourth with a 4-1 lead.
Timpanogos would bounce back at the top of the fifth with four runs of their own, which started with Davis Kirby’s RBI single, followed by Paxton Richards’ 2 RBI single and Ethan Hixson’s RBI single before the inning ended and they had a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, Cottonwood would gain the lead for good as Jason Luke doubled to left field and drove in two runners.
For Cottonwood, Dalton Hodge had four hits and one RBI, with Reiser and Luke each adding two hits and a combined three RBI’s.
Porter Hodge was the winning pitcher with 4.2 innings pitched, 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs and 5 strikeouts.
For Timpanogos, Paxton Richards and Tyson Heinz had two hits apiece out of the team’s 6 hits. Carter Wilde pitched 3.2 innings to go with 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs and 1 strikeout.
