DRAPER, Utah – After semifinals action on Tuesday, the match up for the 6A boys soccer state championship has been set. Weber will face Copper Hills for the title on Thursday.
Copper Hills took the first game of the day with a 2-1 victory over Granger in overtime. It was the third overtime win of the playoffs for the Grizzlies, who had defeated Lone Peak and Clearfield previously.
Granger took an early 1-0 lead on a header by Lenin Villegas in the first half. Marko Robles’ second-half goal knotted the game up and forced overtime where Jeremy Slick scored the game-winner to send Copper Hills to its first state championship game.
Weber Upsets Pleasant Grove
Weber won its semifinals game against defending-champion Pleasant Grove in a 3-1 victory that featured goals by Ben Pobanz, Jake Youngberg and Josh Maughan.
The Warriors scored all three of their goals within a 15 minute stretch in the second half.
Pleasant Grove’s Tyler Ashby scored with little more than three minutes remaining to avoid a shutout loss, but that was all the Vikings could muster as their bid at a repeat title was turned away.
