BYU’s Shaylee Gonzales Named An Alternate To USA U-19 World Cup Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU sophomore Shaylee Gonzales was named one of the six alternates to the 12-member 2019 USA Women’s Basketball U-19 World Cup Team.
She was named an alternate after four days of trials after being one of 30 players invited to the trials. The 12 players were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee.
Gonzales finished her freshman season with the Cougars and was named West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year, first team All-WCC and one of five freshman to the conference All-Freshman Team.
She averaged 17 points per game, which is a school record for a freshman player at BYU.

The Cougars finished the 2018-19 season with a 26-7 overall record and a 15-3 mark in conference play, including a conference tournament championship. They lost to Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
