Corey Baird Named To Preliminary Squad For USMNT Gold Cup

SANDY, Utah – Corey Baird has made head coach Gregg Berhalter’s preliminary roster for the upcoming Gold Cup this summer. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is held every two years and determines the continental champion of North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
Baird is one of seventy eight players to be selected by Berhalter. The preliminary squad will serve as the basis for the 24 man roster which will be released on June 6th.
There are 24 MLS players on the preliminary roster, with Baird being the only Real Salt Lake representative.
Other notable players who made the squad are Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic, Toronto’s Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore, and RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams.
The USMNT are the reigning champions of the Gold Cup and will co-host this years event with Costa Rica and Jamaica.
The USA was placed in Group D along with Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
On October 11th, 2017 the USA lost to Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 which, along with other CONCACAF results, eliminated them from the 2018 World Cup.
The USA’s Gold Cup schedule is:
- June 18th: USA vs. Guyana at Allianz Field, Saint Paul.
- June 22nd: USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago at FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland.
- June 26th: Panama vs. USA at Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City.
