SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake Bees may have had to delay their game on Thursday due to rain, but there was no delaying a special moment for a Herriman family.
The Bees’ game against the Las Vegas Aviators was postponed to Saturday, but while the team and crowd waited under cover for the rain to clear so they could possibly play, Army Sgt. First Class Gary Packer and his family were reunited after 18 months apart.
With the tarp down on the infield, the Packer family, sans the patriarch, were brought out onto the field to view a video of their father wishing them and saying he would see them soon. Packer had been serving in Iraq for the past year and a half.

The wait was over sooner than expected as moments later, Sgt. Packer emerged from a dugout tunnel to embrace his family.
While there was no baseball played on Thursday due to the weather, it was still an incredible moment for Sgt. Packer and his family. The caption on the Bees’ Instagram post said it best, “Tears fell alongside the rain today as honoring our family of the night turned into a very special moment for The Packer Family.”
