The Aggies finished the 2018 season with an 11-2 record and a victory in the New Mexico Bowl over North Texas. One of the best offensive teams in the country last season, the Aggies lost their head coach Matt Wells, as he as hired away by Texas Tech. To replace Wells, the Aggies hired Gary Andersen, who was an assistant at Utah and had previously been the head coach at Utah State from 2009-12.
