DENVER, Colo. – Former Utah Jazzman Paul Millsap had a big first quarter for the Denver Nuggets in a pivotal Game 5 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
In the opening period, Millsap had 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting with a 3-pointer made. Thanks to Millsap, Gary Harris, Torrey Craig and Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets led the Blazers 31-25.
Millsap’s scoring was highlighted by a couple of pump fakes under the basket to set up an open layup early in the quarter.

Millsap was drafted by the Jazz in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft. He was a fan favorite with the Jazz, playing in an increased role every year until he left to sign with the Atlanta Hawks in 2013. In seven seasons with Utah, he averaged 12.4 points per game with 7.0 rebounds.
Once he signed with the Hawks, he became an All-Star in each of his four seasons in Atlanta. He signed with Denver prior to the 2017-18 season.
On the Portland side, former Weber State star Damian Lillard led the Blazers with nine points on 4-for-8 shooting.
The series was tied two games apiece going into Game 5.
