PROVO, Utah – BYU announced that they have signed graduate transfer running back Ty’Son Williams to the football program.

Williams joins the Cougars from South Carolina after playing two seasons with the Gamecocks. He will graduate in December and will have one year of eligibility to play for BYU in 2019.

“Ty’Son really wants to be here at BYU,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said. “He has a strong vision for his career and is excited about the opportunities at BYU to advance his education and career goals. Ty’Son is a well-rounded football player who can carry the ball and catch it out of the backfield. He is super athletic with tons of speed and playmaking ability. We’re excited to welcome him to the university and our football program,” he added.

Through his time at South Carolina, Williams played in 20 games, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. In 2018, he carried the ball 70 times for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns, while hauling in 9 receptions for 152 yards.

Before his two seasons with SC, he played for North Carolina during his freshman season, appearing in six games, rushing the ball 19 times for 57 yards.

Williams was a four-star recruit out of Crestwood High School, where he ran for 1,058 yards and 14 touchdowns. He reached 1,000 yards rushing during his sophomore and junior seasons.

He was a member of the ESPN Top 300 and ranked the No. 11 running back in the nation, with scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia.
