SANDY, Utah – Just went it seemed that Real Sal Lake was right back in the game against Portland, the Timbers scored again to retake the lead at 2-1.
The score was tied in the 63rd minute on a hard-earned goal by RSL’s Sam Johnson.
However, soon after, the Timbers took advantage of a poor sequence by the RSL defense with a goal by Diego Valeri. The Timbers captain was able to put the ball past RSL’s Andrew Putna after handling a blocked shot by Sebastain Blanco, who had scored earlier in the game.

Putna was given his third straight start of the season after Nick Rimando was ruled out with a nagging knee injury. RSL was also without Kyle Beckerman, who had been experiencing hamstring tightness throughout the week.
RSL came into the match looking to get back to winning ways after falling 2-1 to the LA Galaxy last week.
