SANDY, Utah – Playing in place of the injured Nick Rimando, Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Andrew Putna allowed a goal off a rebound in the first half of the match against the Portland Timbers.
It was the third start of the season for Putna, who has been filling in for the legendary Rimando while he’s been out with a nagging knee injury.
In the 35th minute, after RSL’s Albert Rusnak nearly punched in a penalty kick, Portland scored on the counter attack thanks to a strong effort by Sebastian Blanco.

Blanco weaved his way through the box and fired past a pair of RSL defenders on frame. Putna made the first stop, but the ball came out towards Blanco again, who buried the second attempt.
In addition to playing with Rimando, RSL was also without the services of Kyle Beckerman, who was ruled out with hamstring tightness.
