SANDY, Utah – After a video replay showed a handball by Portland’s Zarek Valentin, Real Salt Lake’s Albert Rusnak was given a penalty kick which was saved by Timbers keeper Steve Clark.
The infraction took place in the 26th minute and allowed RSL’s highly potent attacking midfielder to have his team’s first real look at a goal in the match.
Rusnak took aim at the bottom left hand corner, but Clark read it the whole way and knocked the ball aside.

On the ensuing corner kick, Rusnak gave service to the far post, giving his teammate Nedum Onuoha a chance to convert on the header, but that attempt was also stymied by Clark.
As a result, the game remained scoreless.
RSL came into the match against Portland without its two star players and longtime leaders in Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando, who were both held out with injuries.
Real Salt Lake matches can be streamed live on KSLSports.com or on the KSL TV app.
