SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In 2017 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman scored an outstanding goal from 30-yards out that hit the “top bin” of the goal.
KSL Sports’ Tom Hackett tried to do the same at the RSL Academy in Herriman, Utah.
The beautiful strike in 2017, gave RSL the 1-0 lead over the Timbers.

Hackett received some words of encouragement after many failed attempts.
“It’s all about effort and trying harder,” said RSL Director of Public Relations and The RSL Lion’s Den Podcast Host Matt Gaschk.
Hackett had a surprise visit from one of the players who was involved on the goal in 2017, RSL defender Tony Beltran.
“Little known fact, I got the assist on this goal,” Beltran said. “I passed to Kyle [Beckerman], he shot it and nearly took my head off. Have you ever seen Neo from the Matrix? Mine was better,” he added.
After 100 attempts, Hackett was close but never fully recreated the shot by Beckerman.
