Former BYU Star Jimmer Fredette Expected To Meet With Phoenix Suns

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette could make a return to the NBA. According to arizonasports.com’s John Gambadoro, Fredette will meet with the Phoenix Suns on Thursday.
Fredette could sign with the Suns for the rest of the season with the franchise having an open roster spot.
The former BYU star is currently playing for the Shanghi Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association and is averaging 36.9 points per game. Their season is over as the Sharks were eliminated from the postseason.

Fredette was drafted in 2011 to the Sacramento Kings with the 10th overall pick. He played for the Kings from 2011-14 before joining the Chicago Bulls for the rest of the 2014 season. He spent one season with the New Orleans Pelicans after his stint in Chicago. Fredette went on to play for the Westchester Knicks of the G-League, where he was called up by the New York Knicks in 2016. Since then, he has been in China.

His time at BYU was memorable as he led the nation in scoring in 2011 and was awarded National College Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. He averaged 28.9 points per game during his senior season for the Cougars, where he led the team to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament and lost to Florida in overtime.
The Suns currently hold the second-worst record in the NBA at 17-55.
