WASHINGTON, D.C. – He already had two goals in the first half against Real Salt Lake and in the second half, D.C. United star Wayne Rooney completed a hat trick with this third goal of the game.
In the 63rd minute, Rooney was on the receiving end of some stellar teamwork as D.C. United penetrated the RSL box with some ticky-tack passing.
At the time, RSL was playing with just 10 men as forward Jefferson Savarino was ejected with a red card near the end of the first half.

Rooney’s goal gave D.C. United a commanding 3-0 lead, but they weren’t done pouring it on.
Just a couple minutes later, Marcelo Silva received his second yellow card of the match and like, Savarino, was sent to the locker room, putting RSL down two men.
With the double advantage, Lucas Rodriguez found the back of the net on a corner kick from Rooney in the 76th minute and then his teammate Ulises Segura connected on a goal in the 80th minute to complete the 5-0 blowout victory.
