RSL Down 2-0 Early After Brace By Rooney

WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. United superstar Wayne Rooney made Real Salt Lake pay twice with a brace that came within minutes towards the end of the first half.
First, Rooney cashed in a on a first-half penalty kick attempt to put his team up 1-0 against Real Salt Lake.
Following a video review, RSL’s Marcelo Silva was shown a yellow card for a penalty that took place inside the box in the 32nd minute. After going to VAR to sort out what happened, D.C. United was awarded a penalty which was taken by the English superstar.
Rooney stutter-stepped and delivered a shot to the bottom right corner of the frame. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando dove left as the goal sailed into the back of the net.

It was the first goal of the season for Rooney who starred for years with Manchester United.
His second goal of the year soon followed.
Not much later, in the 41st minute, Rooney took a slick pass into the box and chipped it over Rimando for his second goal of the match.

It was the first time that RSL trailed at any point in a game this season.
