WASHINGTON, D.C. – Prior to kickoff between Real Salt Lake and D.C. United, the home team gave a classy tribute to RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
Rimando, who many consider to be the greatest goalkeeper in the history of Major League Soccer, announced that this season would be his before the beginning of the season. In respect for his game and his contributions to MLS, it is expected that Rimando will receive a farewell tour of sorts from the other clubs as RSL travels through its schedule.
D.C. United did its part to honor Rimando prior to Friday’s match against RSL. The club presented Rimando, who played for D.C. from 2002-06 before to coming over to RSL, with a framed game-worn jersey and showed a special thank-you graphic on the replay board.
#DCU is encouraging as many fans as possible to get into their sections tonight for conclusion of pre-game warm ups as there will be a presentation to Nick Rimando from Ben and Dave Kasper for his service to our Club and the game. @DistrictUltrasX @Barra_Brava @ScreamingEagles pic.twitter.com/VLFCFRS01a
