LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Utah State Aggies put together a dominant offensive performance in a 85-60 wire-to-wire beating of Fresno State in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament.

Five Aggies finished in double-figures in a collective team effort to move past the Bulldogs and into the championship game.

Sam Merrill had 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting to led the Aggies while Diogo Brito had a great game coming off the bench with 20 points and four 3-pointers made.

Neemias Queta turned in a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The game was over relatively quickly as the Aggies put up 50 pionts in the first half. Combined with the second half of the quarterfinals match against New Mexico and it was 102 points that the Aggies had put up in those 40 minutes of action.

Nate Grimes had 21 points to led the Bulldogs.

The Magic Continues

The Aggies will be making their first trip to the Mountain West Conference tournament championship game to play for their first conference tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

They’ll face San Diego State, who knocked off top-seeded Nevada 65-56 earlier in the day on Friday, for the conference championship.

Regardless of the outcome of the title game against San Diego State, it is believed by many national experts that Utah State has secured an at-large bid due to an impressive season-long resume.

The championship game against the Aztecs will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
