UVU’s Jake Toolson Named WAC Player Of The Year; Lowell Named Best Freshman

OREM, Utah – The Western Athletic Conference announced their end of season awards from the 2018-19 campaign. Utah Valley has two players recognized by the conference for their performances this season.
Redshirt junior Jake Toolson averaged 16.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field, 47 percent from downtown and 87 percent from the free throw line. Toolson ranks in the top six in the conference in those statistical categories.
He is the first player in UVU history to earn WAC Player of the Year honors. Toolson was named WAC Player of the Week once this season and had 20 points or more in five league games.
The Gilbert, Arizona native is the only player in the nation that has played in 20 or more games, while shooting better than 55 percent from the field, 45 percent from the three-point line and 85 percent from the free throw line.
Toolson was also named to the All-WAC first team.
His uncle, Danny Ainge won the award when he was playing for BYU.
Wyatt Lowell was award the WAC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference freshmen in scoring with 5.4 points, 3 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game. He reached double figures in scoring three times, while starting in two games. Lowell is the first UVU player in history to earn the WAC Freshman of the Year award.
The Wolverines are the No. 2-seed in the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena. They will face No. 7-seed UMKC on Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
