OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines picked up a 76-61 victory over CSU Bakersfield in the regular season finale.

With the victory and the preceding win over Grand Canyon, UVU locked up the No. 2 seed in the Western Athletic Conference tournament. The Wolverines will face No. 7-seeded UM Kansas City in the tournament, which will begin Thursday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The Wolverines never wavered in a wire-to-wire victory over Roadrunners. In the second half, UVU’s lead ballooned to as much as 24 in the final two minutes. However, UVU would go scoreless the rest of the way, allowing a 9-0 Bakersfield run to make the final score more palatable for the Roadrunners.

By The Numbers

On the program’s senior night, Conner Toolson was sharp in his final game in Orem. The senior guard had 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting with four 3-pointers made.

Conner’s cousin, Jake, also had a strong game. The junior had 13 points on 50 percent shooting with two triples.

Richard Harward nearly had a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Wolverines played an excellent team game, with 22 of their 25 made field coming off an assist.

Rickey Holden was the lone Roadrunner in double-figure scoring with 15 points.

The victory moved UVU’s overall record to 23-8 with a 12-4 conference. The Wolverines lost just one game at home this season in an 83-78 decision to the eventual conference regular season champions, New Mexico State on Jan. 19.

It’s the first time in program history that UVU has won 20 games in back-to-back seasons. The Wolverines went 23-11 last season.

Next Up

The tournament game between the Wolverines and Kangaroos will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN+.

UVU beat UM Kansas City twice this season, the first was a 75-67 victory in Kansas City on Jan. 24 and the second was a 79-67 win in Orem on Feb. 23.
