LOGAN, Utah – Utah State had two key victories this week and as such, junior guard Sam Merrill has been honored as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week.
In wins over San Diego State and No. 12-ranked Nevada, Merrill played every single minute of both games and led his team in scoring in both contests.
He scored a team-high 19 points in the Aggies’ 70-54 win over San Diego State and followed that up with a 29-point performance in Utah State’s victory over Nevada.

For the year, Merrill, a Bountiful High product, is averaging a career-best 20.5 points this season while shooting 50.4 percent from the field.
After the win over Nevada, the national pundits have projected that the Aggies will make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid and could potentially play their opening round game in Salt Lake City.
The Aggies will play for at least a share of the regular season conference title on the road against Colorado State. The game will tip off Tuesday at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on AT&T Sports Net.
