Corner Canyon Claims 5A State Championship With Win Over Jordan

OGDEN, Utah – The Corner Canyon Chargers basketball team joined the football as state champions in the 5A classification with a 62-45 win over Jordan.
It was a slow start for both teams in the opening quarter with Corner Canyon leading 11-5. Jordan would answer back with a 13-8 second quarter to trail by one point at halftime.
The Chargers turned it up offensively by outscoring the Beetdiggers 21-10 in the third quarter and put a bow on the state championship by scoring 22 points and holding Jordan to 17 in the fourth quarter.
Both teams made 16 field goals but Jordan attempted more shots than Corner Canyon. The difference was the free-throw margin, the Chargers made 30-of-35 free throws, while Jordan went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Hayden Welling exploded with 29 points and 15 rebounds, while Gabe Toombs added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers.
For Jordan, Dyson Koehler led the way with 13 points and Tevita Mafileo chipped in 11 points.
