HOUSTON, Texas – After 36 scoreless minutes in the season opener against the Houston Dynamo, Real Salt Lake attacking midfielder Albert Rusnak gave his team the first goal of the year.
After a run up the field that KSL Sports soccer analyst Tom Hackett called “devilish,” last season’s MLS Rookie of the Year Corey Baird set up Rusnak so that the Slovakian national could finish the play by burying the ball in the bottom left corner of the frame.
Over the offseason, Rusnak became the highest-paid player in team history with a deal that will keep him a RSL kit through 2022 and pay him an average of around $2 million per year.
