BYU COUGARS
Emery Laughs Off Viral Cross-Up Against Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – BYU guard Nick Emery went viral for all the wrong reasons during the Cougars’ recent loss to Gonzaga.
The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs won by 34 over BYU and to add insult to injury, Emery was on the receiving end of an ankle-breaking crossover by Gonzaga’s Geno Crandall.
It was the worst loss for BYU in the Dave Rose-era and made it impossible for the Cougars to extend Rose’s 13-year long stretch winning at least 20 regular season games.
Emery finished the game with 9 points, but it was a play on the defensive end of the court that caught the attention of the nation’s highlight reels. To be clear, it was not a highlight featuring a strong defensive play by Emery.
He just crossed this man into next week 😱 #SCtop10 pic.twitter.com/8On9Frcwru

The crossover was quickly distributed all over social media, putting Emery’s miscalculation on defense on the national stage. Crandall’s crossover gave him enough space to drive in the lane for an open lay-up to put Gonzaga up 71-53 with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Emery, to his credit, took the viral moment in stride.
If anyone is wondering, my ankles are okay 😅😂 You win some, you lose some. 🤷🏼♂️ https://t.co/9jxOiIZ5lq
