BYU’s Haws, Chase Named WCC Players Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – The West Coast Conference has named BYU guard T.J. Haws their Player of the Week. BYU women’s guard Brenna Chase was also given a similar honor.
Haws led BYU to two comeback wins over San Diego and Loyola Marymount, while he averaged 24 points, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals, shooting 45 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point line.
Against San Diego, Haws finished with a career-high 35 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from deep. He had 20 points in just the second half before the game went into overtime.
The junior guard scored eight points in the final 26 seconds to secure the win for the Cougars.
In their win over Loyola Marymount, Haws had 13 points, 8 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. BYU overcame a 12-point deficit to pick up the win with Haws sealing the victory at the free-throw line with 39 seconds left.
This is the first WCC weekly award this season for Haws and the third for BYU, Yoeli Childs has been named Player of the Week twice this season.
BYU will host San Francisco on Thursday at 7 p.m. on BYUtv and KSL Newsradio.

Chase scored in double figures twice to lead the Cougars women’s squad to wins over Portland and Gonzaga last week.
This is the first such honor for Chase and the third for the team this season.
