LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Utah Utes men’s basketball team kept up their winning ways on the road with a 77-70 victory over USC.

Utes Start Fast, Hold On For Win

The game was tied at 7-all five minutes into the contest when the Utes took over and all but buried the Trojans. Utah reeled off an enormous 30-10 run that was punctuated by a made 3-pointer by Both Gach. Going into the halftime break, Utah seemingly had it in the bag with a 37-23 lead.

That was until late in the second half. Working to cut into the Utah lead, USC whittled it down to seven at 66-59 on a dunk by Nick Rakocevic. Utah’s Parker Van Dyke responded with the biggest shot of the game on the next possession, a 3-pointer that ended the momentum for the Trojans. They would work the lead down to seven again, but never got any closer in the comeback attempt.

Four Utes finished in double figure scoring in the victory. Both Gach led the way with 15 points while Jayce Johnson turned in a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double.

USC’s Jonah Matthews was the game’s high scorer with 18 points.
