Cougars Drop Third Straight In Loss To Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – It’s been a tough California road trip for the BYU men’s volleyball team. The Cougars dropped their third straight match in a 3-0 loss to Pepperdine.
The latest loss comes after the Cougars fell in back-to-back matches against UC-Santa Barbara.
Against the Waves, Pepperdine took an early advantage with a 10-3 lead in the first set. The Cougars got back into it with by bringing the score to within four at 20-16, but the Waves finished the set on a 5-1 run with a kill by David Wieczorek to finish it off.
BYU briefly lead 3-1 in the second set thanks to a pair of kills by Davide Gardini, but it would be all Pepperdine the rest of the way as the Waves rolled to pick up another win, 25-19.
Pepperdine started the third set strong, taking an early 4-0. Facing match point, the Cougars scored four straight in a valiant comeback effort but ultimately fell 25-18 in the final set of the match.

In the loss, Gabi Garcia Fernande had a strong outing with 13 kills and 15 points accounted for.
Wieczorek was the star of the match, however, accounting for 18.5 points for the Waves.
The Cougars will continue their West Coast road trip against UCLA on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
