BYU Gymnastics Finishes Third In Meet With Arizona State, Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – BYU’s Shannon Evans took home the all-around crown, but as a team the Cougars finished third in a tri-meet with Arizona State and Cal.
Cal won the event, by sweeping the events as a team and finished with a score of 196.700. The Sun Devils came in second with a score of 195.700 while BYU rounded out the group with a score of 194.975.

Evans’ victories in the vault and bars propelled her to the overall title. She took the vault with a nearly perfect score of 9.925 and then tied for first with two others in the bars with a score of 9.875. She also finished second in the floor with a 9.875.
“It was great to be out on a floor with two very good PAC 12 teams,” BYU head coach Guard Young said. “It was a great road test for us as we started on balance beam. It is always difficult for teams to do and I think we did a good job. I was really proud of the efforts that our girls showed tonight. Shannon was just at a different level tonight. She is a competitor and was just at a different level than I have ever seen her at.”
The rest of the Cougars struggled in the meet. Abby Boden had the next most impressive individual performance with by tying for fifth on the beam with a 9.850.
The Cougars will next head to Colorado Springs, Colo. For a quad-meet with Air Force, Springfield and Seattle Pacific next Saturday.
