Portland Bombards Utah From Deep In 27-Point Blowout

PORTLAND, Oreg. – Portland’s two stars, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 66 points in 132-105 loss for the Utah Jazz against the Trail Blazers.
Having beaten Portland in the two team’s previous three matchups this season, perhaps the Jazz were due for a poor performance.

Portland Puts It Out Of Reach Early
Right from the tip off, the game belonged to the Trail Blazers. The home team quickly built a commanding 45-27 lead after the first quarter thanks to an incredible opening period by McCollum. The star guard was a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor with two 3-pointers made for 20 points. That would be an impressive stat line for any player’s game, but that was just the first quarter for McCollum.

The Jazz played an improved second quarter, outscoring Portland 31-29, but Portland had a big 16-point lead in at halftime thanks to 24 points by former Weber State star Lillard to compliment McCollum’s big output.

Despite the large deficit at halftime, Utah’s Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles all had double-figure scoring to led the Jazz.
The problem was that the Trail Blazers, especially the backcourt of Lillard and McCollum, were red hot and that continued in the second half.
The Trail Blazers didn’t let off the gas as the Jazz emptied the bench with plenty of time remaining in the fourth quarter.
By The Numbers
Portland shot an impressive 50 percent from beyond the arc in the win. They knocked down 16 3-pointers to overcome the fact that the Jazz won the points in the paint battle, 54-48.
All five of Utah’s starters scored in double figures, led by Mitchell with 22 points. Despite the second year guard’s performance, the Jazz were outscored by 28 with Mitchell on the floor.
