Utah State Coasts To Win Over Colorado State 87-72

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies never trailed and picked up an impressive 87-72 win over the Colorado State Rams.
Utah State had five players score in double figures led by Brock Miller with 18 points, including 6-for-9 from downtown and Neemias Queta also had 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Sam Merrill chipped in 16 points while Quinn Taylor added 12 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Diogo Brito scored 12 points off the bench.
The Rams played seven players in the game but six played heavy minutes with five players reaching double figures in scoring. J.D. Paige led the way with 17 points, Hyron Edwards poured in 14 points and Nico Carvacho notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Miller, Queta Lift USU In First Half
Utah State started strong in the first three minutes of play with an 11-2 run that included a thunderous dunk by Queta, who scored 6 of the Aggies first 11 points.
The Aggies held a 14-5 lead just five minutes into the game.
They jumped on an 8-0 run through a 2-minute stretch, Brock Miller made 4 three-pointers for a quick 12 points and the lead was 35-26.
The first half ended with each team scoring nine points each and the Aggies had a 44-35 lead at the break.
Utah State had two players in double figures after 20 minutes of play, Brock Miller had 15 points, all coming from three-point makes and Queta had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Aggies Expand Lead
Diogo Brito hit a three-pointer midway through the second half that put the Aggies on a 9-2 run to bump their lead to 65-48 with 9 minutes left.
Merrill hit a triple to give Utah State their biggest lead of the game 68-50 shortly after Brito’s three.
The Aggies kept the Rams at arm’s length, keeping the lead in double digits. After Queta made a bucket while getting fouled, Utah State corralled the offensive rebound and starting working the clock with a 12 point lead with 2 minutes left.
Brito hit a three-pointer on the following play that put the game away.

Utah State improved to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play and have their last two games and three of their last four.
They will travel to Albuquerque to face the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday at 2 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The Lobos are 9-9 overall and 3-3 in the Mountain West Conference and have lost three of their last four.
Both teams won on their home floor last season with Utah State picking up an 89-80 win in Logan and New Mexico notching a 78-63 win at home.
