SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah Women’s Basketball Team continued their hot streak with a 78-59 win over Colorado at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah has tied their best 17 game start in program history, matching the 1997 season.
It’s also their best start in Pac-12 play since joining the conference in 2011.
Utah created the separation early with a 23-15 lead after the first quarter of play. Colorado improved in the second quarter as the Utes outscored the Buffaloes by just one point, 20-19 to take a 43-34 halftime lead.
The third quarter was much like the first with the Utes holding Colorado to just 11 points while putting 18 points on the scoreboard.
Utah cruised through the final 10 minutes of the game to pull out the win.
“I thought defensively we were good with forcing turnovers, didn’t foul, but offensively we were good and bad,” head coach Lynne Roberts said. “It is hard to play the entire second half without a starter. Offensively we shot the ball great, particularly on the boards in the second half. We had 20 assists to 13 turnovers and I thought everybody did their job.”
Megan Huff led the Utes with 17 points, Kiana Moore added 15 points, Andrea Torres chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Erika Bean scored 11 points.
Colorado’s Alexis Robinson led all scorers with 24 points and Quinessa Caylao-Do added 19 points as they combined for 43 of their 59 points. Only three other Buffaloes’ scored.
The Utes improved their record to 16-1 overall and 5-1 in the Pac-12 and have won their last four games.
They will host California on Friday at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks. The Golden Bears are 11-5 overall and 2-3 in Pac-12 play.
Utah will then host No. 6 Stanford (14-1, 4-0 Pac-12) on Sunday, January 27 at 12 p.m.
