BYU Crashes Waves With Big Road Win Over Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – The BYU Cougars got just their second win in an opposing team’s gym in a 87-76 victory over Pepperdine.
BYU trailed early before finally taking the lead on 22-21 near the midway point of the first half on a jumper by Yoeli Childs.
From there, it seemed that the flood gates were open for BYU. They also cracked down on defense and went on a 22-14 run to end the first half with a 44-35 lead.

Pepperdine opened the second half red hot, going on a 15-4 run to overtake BYU 50-49 five minutes into the second half.
The Cougars quickly recovered on a 3-pointer by Childs to regain the advantage.
From there, the two teams played back-and-forth, tying up a couple times before TJ Haws knocked down a clutch 3-pointer with seven minutes remaining to put the Cougars up 70-63.

The Cougars who were 11-0 when leading in the last five minutes going into the game, made it 12-0 by outlasting the Waves to the end.

Haws finished with a career-high 32 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. He also went to the foul line 20 times and knocked down 16 of the freebies. He also had seven rebounds and eight assists to round out an impressive stat line.
Childs also had a strong game with 20 points.

Colbey Ross led the Waves with 24 points.
